Since it’s Halloween, we are going to share with you an interesting theme called Day of the Dead, or Dia De Los Muertos. It might sound morbid but it is fast becoming popular in the US, England, France, Australia and Canada because couples embrace the beautiful concept of this traditional Mexican holiday. Day of the Dead reminds us that life is short and death is part of the cycle of life, but our relationships will last a lifetime as the spirits of the dead are always with us. In other words, more than till death do us part, they actually believe in eternal love. And unlike what you might suppose, the theme is lively, and filled with bright colours and flowers, and often, a skeleton cake topper. We probably wouldn’t be able to embrace this concept, if not for this colourful animation ‘The Book of Life’, which is about famous Mexican legends and myths. Thanks for sending us this story, Anna Calzolaio of In The Mood For Love.
Anna: “Anabel is a girl from Texas with a Mexican background, while Frederick is Danish. The idea behind the wedding was to mix the two families that had never met before (brave!). The décor featured bright Mexican colours, the seating plan was a little fruit market, the table’s names were based on Mexican Loteria cards, and there were little handpainted skulls and favours.
“There was a Danish element too, of course. Danish wedding traditions include a lot of speeches and sing-alongs, and after the dinner, the bride and groom took to the dance floor for the bridal waltz and to cut the wedding cake. There was also a face-painting corner for doing Dia De Los Muertos make-up, and a spooky photobooth!”
